Building Control

Building Control will need to be  consulted to check over the choices of construction, fire escape, and carbon footprint.

An essential difference in the most general terms is that while Planners control the impact of a building on the neighbourhood Building Control ensures the building is safe to use.

One demanding part of the Building Regs is ‘part L’, which deals with carbon emissions and will determine the level of insulation needed and how much glazing you must not exceed. This can require complex calculation and may be beyond our skills as an architect. If we need a consultants advice we shall tell you.
